Tiger Who? And Other U.S. Ryder Cup Victory Thoughts

U.S. Ryder Cup victories since 2000 with Tiger Woods: 0

U.S. Ryder Cup victories since 2000 without Tiger Woods: 1

Just sayin'....

I'm kidding, of course. The U.S. Ryder Cup team was a big underdog against the Europeans, but man oh man, did captain Paul Azinger push all the right buttons!

USA! USA! USA!

Here are my brief thoughts on the big U.S. victory:

Anthony Kim, a star in the making for some time now, showed why he's going to give Tiger a run for his money when Tiger returns.

Phil "Tits" Mickelson continues to disappoint in the Ryder Cup.

Is there anything more enjoyable than watching the pouty Spaniard, Sergio Garcia, have his ass handed to him (by Kim)?

U.S. players look noticeably more robust around the waistline than do the Europeans.

Who the hell is dressing the U.S. players? Target? Cutter & Buck? Eddie Bauer? Geez, not stylish at all. Very, very boring. I smell a great challenge for Season 6 of "Project Runway." Are you listening Heidi Klum?

The South Shall Rise Again Boys--Boo Weekley, JB Holmes and Kenny Perry--showed that guts (more like beer bellies), big swings and pressure-relieving humor all have a place in the sometimes too-serious Ryder Cup.

Come on, let Mike Weir play on the U.S. team. So what if he's Canadian? Canada is practically the 51st state anyway....

Miguel Angel Jimenez is one weird lookin' dude. Aside from that, his conceding the final putt to Jim Furyk was very, very classy.

Finally, how cool is that Furyk finished out the victory!? A little redemption for 2006, eh, Jim? Score one for balding, late-30-something white guys with goofy swings everywhere!

When guys make try to make ... (Below threshold)
ScottB:

When guys make try to make the case that the US team is somehow better off without Tiger, I usually think they are morons. The best player in the world is an asset, not a hindrance.

However, I heard a radio sports guy suggest that perhaps the young guys (and Boo in particular) would not have been as energetic and spontaneous has Tiger been there. They perhaps would have been more meek under Tiger's glare, and then be more tight. I think that might have been true, and the outcome maybe would have been different.

I loved every minute of it this week. How nice to see some US players suck it up and not choke it away!

Phil "Tits" Mickelson needs to get those things reduced. Nothing sadder than saying your an athlete and I also have man boobs.

Not to mention the fact tha... (Below threshold)

Not to mention the fact that Ben Curtis (who grew up 10 minutes from my house) beat that pompous jackass Lee Westwood.
