Somewhere in the dugout, Arizona Diamondbacks Adam Dunn must've let out a big sigh of relief. He no longer held the MLB record for strikeouts in a season by a hitter with 196.
The new and dubious record belongs to teammate and third baseman Mark Reynolds with 200. And counting.
How pathetic.
Up until the 1960s or so, it was considered a disgrace to strike out as a hitter. Some players were even embarrassed by it. These days? Forget it, players just don't care. They could care less that they completely whiffed on hitting the ball. Instead of walking back to the dugout shaking their head and getting a little miffed, they nonchalantly stroll back, look around and act like nothing happened. How irritating.
When I played ball, even in little league, I hated striking out. I felt foolish and embarrassed that I couldn't get the ball in play. So I learned to shorten up my swing and protect the plate with two strikes and at least get the ball in play to try and make something happen. (It worked...sort of. I still stunk, but at least I wasn't K-ing.)
Now I understand that there are some situations where a K hurts you less than hitting the ball weakly. (I won't get into all those scenarios.) Even then there's a certain amount of failure in striking out.
But 200 times? Come on, that's just pathetic. I'd be disgusted with myself as a player.
I haven't seen any quotes by Reynolds has to how he feels about his shameful record, but when I do I hope he says something like, "I'm not very proud of that at all. I'm embarrassed really. It means I let my teammates down in a lot of situations. I'm going to work on some things over the winter, I really am. This needs to stop."
I sure hope so, buddy. Because that's one record nobody wants to hold.

Absolutely awful article. Nobody cares about this except you. Your lack of writing talent is painfully obvious.

Wow! Extremely witty response on your part. Cockring? Do yourself a favor and spend more time on your writing skills and less time on your lame responses.

It's far better than your feckless criticism. The fact that you even bothered to respond demonstrates what a real asshole you are, pal.
