Even more people are jumping on the 'Knock Michelle Wie' bandwagon.
SUNNINGDALE, England -- Michelle Wie skipped a major to play on the PGA Tour this week. Annika Sorenstam, Helen Alfredsson and Paula Creamer wonder why.If AP or the LPGA pros bothered to check, they would have known the British Open qualifier was sandwiched between two LPGA tournaments Michelle was entered in. It is very hard to be in Toledo on Sunday, The UK on Monday, and back to play in Springfield Illinois on Wednesday for a pro-am.After all, Wie has yet to win on the women's tour and has never made the cut on the PGA Tour.
WieWie, who is managed by her parents, was listed in qualifying for the Women's British Open at Sunningdale. But she pulled out and instead has a sponsor's exemption for the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open at Reno, Nev. It is her eighth PGA Tour event.
The British Open qualifier and the conflict with Michelle's other obligations was the subject of a blog post at The Waggle Room only two weeks ago. Michelle isn't above criticism, the best course for her to would have been to pursue the Futures Tour rather than Reno, but when writers and players make ill informed comments it makes it look like people have it out for Michelle. Annika, Helen, Paula, you try traveling from Toledo, The UK, and Illinois in less than 72 hours. Are you a bunch of Wonder Women?
I'm not through with Annika yet.
"I really don't know why Michelle continues to do this. We have a major this week and, if you can't qualify for a major, I don't see any reason why you should play with the men."Annika has no business saying this. For in 2006, she skipped the Tournament of Champions in spite of their being an LPGA rule requiring her to play in the tournament. Here is what almighty Annika said at the time.
Sorenstam also learned that some LPGA players had been critical of her playing in Naples instead of coming to Mobile.Annika, thinks its all right to skip an LPGA tournament for another event, but only for her! By the way, what was that event she was playing in Naples?"I think that's uncalled for," she said. "I have supported the tour for many, many years."
Greg Norman's Merrill Lynch Shootout, a tournament with male players. What a hypocrite this woman is.

I'm not sure what issue Helen Alfredsson and Paula Creamer have with Wie (other than Wie's shtick is very old), but Sorenstam has a prior beef with Wie over the Ginn Tribute "88 Rule" WD fiasco, and subsequent behavior, in 2007. I'm sure that probably has a lot to do with Annika opening her mouth before checking her facts. If someone points this out to her (which I'm doubting they will), she may not ever comment on Wie again.
I really believe Wie's Dad is ruining her career before it ever gets started. She's not very well liked by LPGA fans and players alike.

I have grown tired of the Wie circus. I suspect others including some of the women on the LPGA circuit have also. Sometimes we say stupid things when we are tired. I used to have the attitude that they should leave Michelle alone and just let her do her thing, but I don't think that way now. I just have so little interest in what she does anymore. I think based on your example Annika is being a hypocrite, but I understand Annika "having it in for her", as you put it, because she did WD from Annika's tournament earlier this year with a wrist "injury" only to be practicing early the following week. I believe most of Wie's problems stem from her and her family's mismanagement of her career.
