Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim pitchers Jared Weaver and Jose Arredondo held the Los Angeles Dodgers (of Los Angeles) hitless throughout tonight's game, but lost 1-0.
What....wait....why the....how....
Is that possible, you ask? Easy. Get on base and advance to second via an error, advance to third by another error and hit the ever-thrilling sacrifice fly and, presto, that's how you score a run.
And that's all the Dodgers had to do tonight to beat the Halos.
But it's not officially a no-hitter in the record books, either. Why? Because a no-hitter has to be a complete game by one pitcher, not two.
If memory serves, one of the more famous combined no hitters occurred during the Oakland A's dynasty of the early 1970s during a playoff series. And again, if memory serves, they won that game. Unlike the Angels tonight.
So while this combined no-no is a pretty rare and special event, it's still a Big L.

You can not win if you do not score. I don't know if Yogi said that, but it seems to be true.

Actually, it's that a no-hitter needs to be nine innings. The Angels hurlers only threw eight.

A no-hitter can be combined, Ex: Babe ruth walked the leadoff batter back in the early 1900's but got ejected for socking the home plate umpire. another pitcher retired the next 27 in a row for a comined no-hitter. By definiton a no-hitter is when a pither throws nine innings and does not let up a hit.
