A Major Concern: Tiger's Knee

Please tell me you're watching the U.S. Open and Tiger Woods' historic and gutty run at Major win #14. If not, with every increasing suspicion I think today could very well be the last time you see Woods in '08. Or at least for a little while.

Tiger's left knee, surgically cleaned out a little over 8 weeks ago, just isn't bothering him a little bit; he looks to be excruciating pain. Clearly his recovery has not gone well or, worse still, he's done some kind of damage to it. How he is making it around Torrey Pines' 7,600-yard expanse the past 3 days and is STILL managing to be the U.S. Open leader, really demonstrates the competitive fire in this guy's belly.

But today may be it. The knee will obviously have to be looked at via MRI after the tournament to determine what, if anything, is wrong. If there is something wrong, I suspect Woods may have to shut it down for an extended period of time. Even if rest in the prescribed remedy, The Open Championship (aka: the British Open) is a little less than a month away, so that may not be enough time to let things heal.

Only Tiger and Tiger's doctors know the real issues right now. But my medically uneducated guess is that Tiger will make an announcement about his knee this coming Monday or Tuesday.

In the meantime, cortisone shot in the knee just before teeing off today, anyone?
