Padres Send Peavy to DL

Mired in last place with the worst record in baseball, life can't get much worse for the San Diego Padres.

Oh wait, yes it can.

The Padres put 2007 Cy Young winner Jake Peavy on the 15-day DL today with swelling and a strained muscle in his pitching elbow. Fortunately, the words "Tommy John surgery" weren't mentioned and the initial reports on his elbow sound positive.

Given the Padres sorry state right now, Pads fans should expect Peavy to be shelved longer than the 15 days as there's little need to potentially do more damage by rushing him back.

Peavy is 4-3 with a 2.91 ERA and currently 3rd in MLB with 60 Ks.
