Again, reporting live from San Antonio:
Kansas came out on fire and at the ten minute mark in the first half was dominating with a 21 point lead. At that point Kansas was hitting 76% to NC's 30%. Add to that Carolina's zero % from the stripe and a huge lead was mounting. At 8:42 the Tar Heels hit a free-throw that ended an 18-0 Kansas run.
At the 5:30 point in the first half, Kansas had a 28 point lead and North Carolina hadn't scored in eight minutes. The final four minutes of the half was all Carolina.
By halftime Carolina had cut the lead to 17. This could be attributed to the referees who started whistling Kansas at every opportunity. Still Kansas went in at the half with a formidable lead and a lot of confidence.
By the ten minute point in the second half Carolina had brought it to within six points. At this point Kansas seemed to have lost their momentum and was making horrible decisions in the paint.
At the eight minute point, Carolina was in sight of the greatest Final Four come back in history. They had trimmed a 28 point deficit to only five and had all the momentum in the world.
Kansas started to pull away at the four minute mark with a 9-0 run making it 73-61.
The final four minutes was all Kansas and they ended it with an 18 point margin 84-66.

Your title is dead on. I couldn't believe NC was that far down early, clawed back, only to get thumped by 18. These 2 games were really lopsided. I don't remember that happening in the Final Four for a long time.
