Pitt beat Georgetown at Levance Fields and secures the Big East Championship.
There were plenty of souvenirs for the Pittsburgh Panthers on Saturday night. Levance Fields had a piece of the nets he and his teammates cut down after winning the Big East tournament championship game wrapped around his right ear like a BlueTooth phone. DeJuan Blair was holding the championship trophy with a devilish grin that said nobody was taking it from him.
But was it a huge upset? It's hard for me to say a huge upset when a 26-9 team beats a 27-5 team by less than ten points.
Pitt's biggest problem was playing in the Big East where they were an anemic 10-8. But keep in mind; we're talking Big East basketball not football. They have 5 teams in the Top 25.
Though not as iconic as Georgia's amazing run, Pitt will no doubt go much deeper into the tournament. Pitt will face a very manageable Oral Roberts in the first round and likely a very beatable Michigan State in the second round. If that likely series of events happens, Pitt will be in the Sweet 16.
Barring any major upsets, Georgetown has Gonzaga in the second round and probably USC next. So, it is very likely Pitt could go further than Georgetown.
Leesons for Pitt to be concerned about. Continue 3-pointing shooting at .400 and try to un-screw the free throws. Hitting only 50% in a championship game ain't gonna get it done.
Oh yeah and getting to the line 44 times against your opponents 9 is over as well.

I can only imagine Seniors face!
Other than that, I don't believe this was an upset and I'm a huge Georgetown fan.
