East Regional Team to Watch

Butler took care of business against South Alabama 81-61. This was a seven seed beating a ten seed so no big deal, right? They are also from less than premier conferences, so again, no big deal right?

That's why I'm here sports fans. This is a big deal and I'll tell you why.

This win by Butler places them up against Tennessee next. If you've been saving your lunch money, bet on Butler. This team is better, much better than a seven seed.

South Alabama was 26-7 and had held opponents under 70 points 21 times on the season and Butler had all but disposed of them in the first half; going in with a 17 point lead. This is an important distinction because South Alabama got to the dance on defense; fast, athletic defense.

The Bulldogs not only hung 81 on the board, they did it in dominating fashion.

Gonzaga proved over the years that a smaller, less athletic team with surreal discipline and the ability to shoot the ball can topple much higher ranked opponents. Butler is the new Gonzaga; after all they are both Bulldogs.

Let's look at pure shooting the ball. The Bulldogs posted a .509 from the field including a lights-out .536 from the arc! This kind of accuracy will force the Volunteers to be more aggressive defensively and that will backfire. Putting Butler on the line is a bad idea because they own the stripe; shooting a .923 today.

Trust me on this one; Butler can surprise a lot of folks. North Carolina is still the best team in the east Regional but don't look past the Bulldogs of Butler.
