Duke Barely Survives Belmont 71-70

In the first half, this was really a victory for Belmont. Even though Duke went in with a 42-35 lead, Belmont had the lead in shooting percentage and three point shooting. Free throws and rebounding was keeping Duke a slim lead.

The second half was even more drama. With 5:30 left Duke led 63-62. The pesky and ferocious Bears would not go away. With 2.7 seconds left Duke's DeMarcus Nelson missed a free throw.

On a wing and a prayer, Belmont launched a half court shot that barely missed and so Duke advances. The Bear's 10-15 from the stripe was really the difference because even in the last two minutes, these kids did not waiver.

Coach K will learn from this scare and he had better because without a couple of fortuitous calls this was an upset for the ages.
