The SEC tournament has delivered some very exciting and unlikely basketball. The number one seed Tennessee fell to Arkansas. The number one and two seeds from the SEC west fell in the same day.
Mother Nature started the unlikely series of events. A tornado ripped through downtown Atlanta and caused damage to the Georgia Dome and even more so to several building around it. This caused SEC officials to move the game to the Georgia Tech home arena.
The smaller venue meant that only those directly associated with the teams were allowed entry leaving thousands of fans in bars and hotel rooms to watch a memorable day in SEC sports.
ATLANTA (AP)--No one thought Georgia could win two SEC tournament games in one day.
Then again, no one asked Georgia seniors Sundiata Gaines and Dave Bliss.
Gaines scored 20 points and Georgia, a last-place team in the regular season, upset Mississippi State 64-60 on Saturday night to move to within one win of its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2002.
Georgia, which upset Kentucky earlier Saturday, will play Arkansas in Sunday's Southeastern Conference tournament championship game.
So this train wreck sets up an SEC Championship game between Arkansas and Georgia. That's right Georgia; who won a lackluster 2 of their last 13 regular season games.
Can a team who went 4-12 in conference play get to the big dance? Georgia did play Arkansas back on January 19th and won by 13 in Athens. The Razorbacks also finished the regular season with a five game losing streak on the road.
Will this run be enough to save the job of Bulldog coach Dennis Felton? Hard to say but one more win will keep him employed for another year for sure.
It is still unlikely that Georgia will finish the streak but they certainly made it interesting enough to watch. Be there: 3:30 EST today.
