Billy Gillespie's Kentucky Wildcats had started the season a very disappointing 6-5 but it looked like that was turning around. They had just knocked off five SEC opponents in a row that included #3 Tennessee. The Wildcat nation was starting to believe.
Then Gillespie and the boys went down to Nashville to face a Vanderbilt team that they beat earlier 79-73 in Rupp Arena. What happened was nothing less than a massive Commodore Bitch Slap.
The Wildcats were handed their worst defeat in their history against an SEC opponent. Vanderbilt led at the half 41-11!
By the time the smoke cleared, the Wildcats were on the losing side of a 41 point deficit 93-52.
This is a down year all across the SEC. They only have 2 teams in the top 25 but they only have one team with an overall losing record (LSU 8-14).
But this is not any team in the SEC. This is Kentucky. A down year for Kentucky is getting eliminated in the Sweet 16. Kentucky is the winningest Div I basketball team in history; 1958-617-1, UK's all-time winning percentage: .760.
I know it's Gillespie's first year and I know that Vandy is a better team than many might think; BUT 41 POINTS!
Billy did a great job at UTEP and Texas AM but he needs to know that the fastest way out of Lexington is losing by 41 to anybody, especially an SEC opponent.
