FoxSports has this little bit of brilliance.
Is it important in today's recruiting game to have a head coach who has NFL experience? That's a great question so I did some research on the Scout.com Top 25 2008 Recruiting Rankings. Of the top 25 schools, 13 of them had a head coach who was either a head coach, coordinator or position coach at the NFL level.
Nick Saban, Alabama
Charlie Weis, Notre Dame
Pete Carroll, USC
Mike Sherman, Texas A&M
Ron Zook, Illinois
Jeff Jagodzinski, Boston College
Dave Wannstedt, Pittsburgh
Bobby Petrino, Arkansas
Bo Pelini, Nebraska
Ty Willingham, Washington
Rick Neuheisel, UCLA
Les Miles, LSU
Dennis Erickson, Arizona State

It's tough for an 18-year-old kid to reject a man walking in his house with a bunch of Super Bowl bling on his fingers.
Super Bowl bling? Are you kidding me?
With the exception of Charlie Weis, who was never a head coach, I don't see anything close to "Super Bowl bling" on this pathetic list. How would this introduction convince an "18-year-old kid"?
I won't go through all of them, but here is a sampling of those with NFL head coach experience.
Saban: Look kid, I know the NFL. I lit that league up with a 15-17 record and no play-off teams. I can't even schedule a game in Miami without security.
Carroll: Son, I've been fired from two NFL teams. I am the picture of mediocrity and I have seen a Super Bowl ring. I've never actually touched one though.
Petrino: I know how to get you to the NFL. I shammed my way in and was coaching a smoking hot 3-10 team when I quit because I couldn't coach ants to a picnic.
Miles: Young man, I coached in the NFL. I coached tight ends for a west coast offense and never won a play-off game.
Not sure what the boys over at Fox are smoking but this is a list of misfits, not a list of over-achievers.
