Dolphins Determined to Stay in the Cellar

Last year the Miami Dolphins came within a whisper of achieving a most dubious distinction; that of being the only team in NFL history to go an entire season undefeated and also the only team to lose every game. Then on December 16th the Baltimore Ravens gave them an early Christmas present and blew a game that they clearly should have won.

This will not stand and the Dolphins intend to make that mark this year.

FOXSports.com has learned Oakland's Josh McCown has agreed to a two-year, $6.25 million contract with the Dolphins. McCown will receive a $2.5 million signing bonus.

The Dolphins were seeking to address the position after releasing Trent Green and, as FOXSports.com first reported, allowing Cleo Lemon to leave via free agency today to Jacksonville. Before the McCown signing, unproven 2007 second-round draft pick John Beck was the only notable quarterback on the roster.

McCown won all of TWO games last year as the Raiders QB. He has a career QB rating of 71.6; which is pathetic. He has thrown 35 touchdowns against 60 interceptions; again pathetic. His average yards per attempt is less than seven yards. Oh yeah, and he manages to get sacked on one of every eleven attempts.

I realize this was a bad year for QB free agency but giving millions of dollars to a guy who is clearly over his head in the NFL is baffling.

One South Florida sports writer was touting David Carr the other day. Looking at their stats, they Carr and McCown are hard to differentiate between.

Miami should let Beck lose the job. Not let this clown throw away 5-6 games before Miami disovers he's just the latest failure. AJ Feeley, Daunte Culpepper, Joey Harrington, Trent Green, Cleo Lemon. Beck may be the next, but all the other guys have proven without a doubt they can't help Miami. Let Beck have his shot now.

At least Miami is throwing away millions rather than draft picks like they did with all the rest.

Yeah Miami came within a whisper of being joined with NE and TB too. However, neither happened. Miami has GOT to be heralded ad the BEST TEAM EVER since all the noise was made about a team that was 18-0-0 being the greatest of all time. Alas, the LOST. Miami WON vs Baltimore, Baltimore didn't lose, Miami won. Miami gave away six other games by 3 pts or less so they indeed lost those. They absolutely GAVE them away. The Ravens didn't.

Jeff,
Did we watch the same game? Raven kicker Matt Stover only missed 5 FGs all year. He missed two in this game alone including a game winner at 9:55 in overtime. Then a blown coverage allowed Miami to win on a 64 yard pass. The longest pass before that play was 22 yards. That's blowing a game friend.

It is true that Miami dropped some close games but they were clearly a very bad football team in 2007. They were dead last in the AFC in defense allowing over 27 PPG and only the Bills and Chiefs were worse in total offense.

My point is that adding McCown is not going to make them much better.
