Rivals.com is reporting that Texas Tech coach Bob Knight has resigned/retired/through a tantrum and quit (one of the above) effective immediately.
Bob Knight, the winningest NCAA men's division I basketball coach in history, has retired as Texas Tech's coach effective immediately.
Knight, 67, won his 902nd game Saturday when the Red Raiders downed Oklahoma State. He will be replaced by his son, Pat. Knight informed athletic director Gerald Myers of his decision Monday morning.
Knight was the last Division I coach to go undefeated and win a national championship; one of his three. No other active coach is within 100 wins of his record.
Knight's legacy however will likely be the most glaring flaming ass who ever coached in the NCAA. How many championships would Knight have won if he could have recruited the top talent? Other than Isaiah Thomas, he didn't exactly get the top talent.
This of course was because he was a flaming ass for his whole career. Few of the top prospects want to play for a man that has always been abusive and has made tons of many on the backs of the very people that he has belittled and degraded.
Imagine the coaching skill of Bob Knight with the recruiting skill of the University of Texas' Mack Brown? Bob Knight was such a prick that he could never recruit but he was an amazing coach. Mack Brown consistently gets some of the best football talent in America and then consistently coaches them into mediocrity.
That would be fun to watch.
