The Giants Beat The Pack (Um, yeah, woo-hoo)

Is there anybody outside of northern New Jersey and the Five Boroughs that really wanted to see the New York Giants beat Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers.

Um, no.

Yeah, the Giants played the New England Patriots tough in Week 16, nearly knocking them off. So it should be a good and entertaining Super Bowl. Blah, blah, blah. Who cares. We (meaning the rest of America outside of the upper East Coast) are all tired of seeing some Boston team play some New York team in the post-season. Big whoop.

It's really simple. We, the football fans of America, wanted Brett Favre. The Guy's Guy. Not the slouched-shouldered, beaten-dog look of Eli Manning who looks like he'll cry after every incompletion. We wanted Favre to have one last shot, and even to possibly go out like John "Horseboy" Elway did: a Super Bowl winner.

But no.

Instead we get a miracle kick from a sad sack kicker like the Giants' Lawerence Tynes. Oh, and let's not forget their jerkwater coach, Tom Coughlin, who really showed how to support his kicker by screaming at him after two missed field goals. Way to keep your kicker's confidence up, coach. Woo-hoo.

How disappointing.

Go Patriots. Make history. And throttle the team that beat Our Man Favre.

Wow, got envy?

Look, I liked both teams going into Sunday, they both had great seasons and reasons to be proud of what they had done. I just wanted to see some good football, and I did.

The Giants overcame the cold, the Green Bay home field mystique, and to some degree their own mistakes and bad coaching. It was a good clean game, and - hard as it may be for you to hear - the better team won.

Just for the record, I live in Houston and normally find it hard to cheer for anyone in New York or California, but the Giants are a feel-good story and they deserve respect.

The Green Bay fans wanted Favre to win, but to say the Giants were supported by no one outside their home turf is simply not true.

I like the Packers, but at some point you need to man up and admit the better team won.

Whoaaa there, Nellie. I never said the better team didn't win. I did, however, strongly infer it was the team that few wanted to win. NY, in particular Plaxico Burress and Manning, had their way with Green Bay's D.

And what exactly are we we supposed to feel good about when it comes to the Giants? A pouty Eli Manning? A jerk like Coughlin? Or, heck, see your article on the main page this morning! LOL.

I'm happy for Strahan; he's a great ambassador for the game. He's friendly and likable and, for the most part, keeps his nose clean off the field. Aside from him, that's it.

Anyway, I hope SB XLII is as good as Week 16's game between the two. I imagine it might even be better than that. I just hope the result is the same.

Peter, you're right that Coughlin is a jerk. So is Belichek. I don't let the bad spoil the good. I think highly of both Brady and Manning, even if I would not rank them as equals. The Giants played a rough road schedule to get to XLII, and they made some impressive comebacks to do it.

Just trying to keep some perspective, is all.

Agree with 100%, DJ! How the Giants played the last 4 games (that includes Week 16) is just really impressive.

I was just using a bit of hyperbole in the piece to express how a lot of people probably felt about the Giants winning. ;-)

Thanks Peter. Good thing they kept the Cowboys out of it, too!
