Warren Sapp has reportedly told some of his teammates that he's ready to call it quits as an NFL player. We might've suspected Sapp's heart wasn't in it anymore a couple weeks ago when he blew up at the refs and got himself ejected from a game in the first quarter - the act of someone who's tired of going through the motions with a crap team and just wants to take an early shower and go home and play some Xbox.
Sapp's career of course began in Tampa Bay where he became an All-Pro, his best season coming in 2000 when he notched a career-high 17 sacks, an absurd number for a defensive tackle. Sapp seemed to run out of gas after that however and was allowed to leave Tampa as a free agent, finally landing in Oakland where he had two more mediocre seasons before seeming to resurrect his career in 2006 when he tallied 10 sacks. Things went down the toilet for Sapp again in 2007 though: he had only 2 sacks, and ended up being fined twice during the season, once for a low hit on Trent Green and once for the aforementioned ejection fracas.
With 96.5 career sacks and a Super Bowl ring to his credit, the energetic, likable Sapp will almost surely make the Hall-of-Fame. Hopefully, no one will slip anything nasty into his food during the dinner.
