The Patriots' quarterback and receivers get all the hype, but today their running backs were the ones who led them to victory. In the first half it was Kevin Faulk, and in the second half, Bill Belichick said the hell with passing and put the game on the back of Laurence Maroney who carried the team to another appearance in the Super Bowl.
Randy Moss was a non-factor. Wes Welker caught a touchdown and made some other plays. Tom Brady did not have one of his better performances, getting picked three times.
The Chargers clearly had enough game to stay with the Pats, but finally could not overcome the loss of LaDanian Tomlinson, the limited contribution of Antonio Gates and the fact that their QB Philip Rivers was hobbled (he's a gamer though - no one will ever doubt that about Rivers). Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers came up big as did Darren Sproles, and their defense did a fantastic job quashing the Pats' passing game. In the second half the Pats just decided to shorten the game up, and the Chargers were unable to make the plays they needed to extend drives. The Chargers had chances in the first half but just couldn't put it in the endzone (that was where they really missed Tomlinson and Gates).

Hilarious, if unintended. Welker isn't being covered by linebackers if Moss isn't clearing out the DBs by the bunchload for him. Moss is the most dominant decoy in the NFL right now. If Moss was a non-factor they'd cover him with a nickel back or safety, putting Cromartie or Jammer on Welker. Funny, I didn't see that happen.
