Rivers May Not Play

Really bad news for San Diego Chargers fans - QB Philip Rivers is listed as doubtful for Sunday's AFC Championship Game at New England. Rivers, reports the San Diego Union-Tribune, has a partially torn ACL in his right knee to go with a sprained MCL.

If Rivers can't go (and it really looks like he won't be able to), the Chargers will send out Billy Volek in his place. Volek will not be helped by the fact that top San Diego pass-catcher Antonio Gates is himself listed as doubtful for the game, and that LaDanian Tomlinson is also nursing an injury.

Chargers fans hoping for a weather assist on Sunday: It's expected to be in the mid-20s in Foxboro with a 15 mph wind.

Rivers will play, how well ... (Below threshold)
Kevin[TypeKey Profile Page]:

Rivers will play, how well (and for how long) is an entirely different question. Being hobbled actually has helped him late in the season. It's forced him to do less of the happy feet stuff and stay in the pocket and step into throws.

SuperChargers are beat up, ... (Below threshold)
Imhotep:

SuperChargers are beat up, I hope they win, but I won't count on it.

Wearing my Chargers mock turtle neck today in support of team.
