Pickin' The Playoffs: N.Y. Giants @ Dallas; San Diego @ Indianapolis

Yesterday's two convincing victories by higher-seeded, well-rested, home-standing teams would seem to bode ill for the Giants and Chargers. So will the trend continue into today's match-ups, or do we have at least one upset in the offing?

I think we can forget about an upset in the Chargers-Colts game. Indianapolis arguably played every bit as well as New England during the latter stages of the regular season, and now they've had their week off, and they've got Marvin Harrison back...and San Diego is missing Antonio Gates, which further hampers an offense that didn't exactly light things up last week against Tennessee. Oh, and Indy knows how to slow down a running game (they have this dude named Bob Sanders on their team who won Defensive MVP mostly because he eats running backs for breakfast). LaDanian Tomlinson is a great player but he can't single-handedly beat Indianapolis. Look for an easy Indy victory, 35-17 or something along those lines.

As for the Dallas-New York game...conventional wisdom is now blowing in the Giants' favor, given the way they've played the last three weeks. Of course, conventional wisdom was also saying that Brett Favre was an overrated cold-weather player...until yesterday, when he led his Packers to a dominating win over Seattle. Then again, maybe the pro-Giants lobby has a point - they are playing pretty well, and Dallas has looked sluggish lately, and T.O. is not 100%, and you have the Jessica Simpson factor allegedly working against Tony Romo. Recipe for an upset?

Nah...Dallas will still throttle New York. T.O. broke a leg and still made it back for the Super Bowl with Philly - you think he's gonna let an ankle sprain stop him (T.O. may be a douchebag but he's a tough douchebag who will absolutely leave it all on the field)? And as for Tony Romo being distracted by Jessica Simpson...please. Romo's a highly-motivated professional athlete for gosh sakes. The big noise about his week off in Cabo with Tuna Girl was just that - a lot of media-fueled static and nonsense. Romo will be focused, and so will the Cowboys defense, which will have a little something for Eli Manning and his mates. I'm taking Dallas 30-13...and yes, I know all about the "it's a division game" argument. I don't think that matters here...the Cowboys are clearly the superior team, and today's game will bear this out.
