Philip Rivers is Also a Man

Tom Coughlin was a man for standing on the sideline of the whole Packers/Giants game with nothing covering his face (which he peeled off after the game, signed and gave to charity). But Philip Rivers was an even bigger man on Sunday - for playing an entire game at QB with no ACL.

Rivers was listed as questionable going into the game, and the media were told that he only had a strained MCL. Then it came out that he had a partial tear in his ACL. Now it's been revealed that Rivers's ACL was completely destroyed, and the QB will have to have reconstructive surgery in this off-season.

Rivers, man that he is, reportedly underwent arthroscopic surgery on Monday to clean out loose cartilage from the knee to enable him to play on Sunday. Even after all this, Rivers and his Chargers gave the Patriots a hell of a game. What would've happened if they'd had LaDanian Tominson?

Speaking of LaDanian Tomlinson...uh, not a man.

It's even manlier than that. He had surgery Monday before the game so that he could even play. Tomlinson was clearly more hurt that the team let on. He tried to go and couldn't. Just ask him if he wanted in... With Turner and Sproles the didn't need LT as a decoy, and if he was that bad off that's all he really would have been.

Who gave Rivers advice to play on a torn ACL?
LT is certainly smarter, a torn MCL (sprain and tear are the same)takes 6 weeks to heal on its own. No surgery is required for MCL.

Rest up LT, we'll see you next year.

As for Rivers, you may be done young man...get well soon.

Kevin[TypeKey Profile Page]:

A torn ACL does not heal, so there's no real problem playing on it if it's fully torn. The problem is stability, and your only option is to strengthen all the muscles around the knee to compensate. As I recall John Elway played his entire career without an ACL.

I've had both ACL's replaced due to sports injuries. After the first tear I tried to go without the ACL and would be OK 90% of the time but I kept having "pivot shifts" where the joint seperated due to the lack of a ligament. It was like someone took out your whole leg below the knee. It wasn't a feeling I wanted for the rest of my life so I had the surgery.
