Michigan Beats Florida in a Shootout 41-35

In terms of fundamental football execution this was not a pretty game but it sure was fun to watch. It's always entertaining to watch 950 total yards and 52 first downs.

Lloyd Carr is leaving Michigan on a winning note but it looked in peril in spite of a Florida defense that played an awful game. The Wolverines turned the ball over four times in the redzone and still managed to win. That is no small accomplishment for any team.

The Gators only have two offensive players and yet no one seems to be able to stop them. Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin accounted for 373 of Florida's 401 total yards. Note to SEC coaches; they are both coming back next year.

The Wolverines were clearly the better team and without the untimely turnovers could have made this a huge blowout. This is best illustrated by the dominance that Michigan showed in moving the ball. The Wolverines were 10-14 on third down while Florida was a miserable 2-11.

The happiest guy of the day was newly hired head coach Rich Rodriguez. He sees what he is inheriting. Big 10 size with SEC speed. Chad Henne and Mike Hart are leaving but there is a ton of talent on a team that frankly under-achieved.

"...Big 10 size with SEC speed."

WTF??? Didn't that game prove to you that in Division I football EVERY team has speed? Florida's "SEC speed" didn't really help them much did it? Or did the "Big 10(11) speed" prove too much for Florida?

This idiotic use of the words speed and size and the premise that somehow the SEC is eons ahead of everyone else is delusional, brainless, and just plain lazy.

Danny Strickland:

Tom,
Calm down, take your meds. Nothing to get personal about in this post. "SEC speed" is a simply a figure of speech. If you read the post, you'll note that I was complimenting the size and SPEED of Michigan (which at last check is not in the SEC).

Every Division I team has speed? I think you need to send that newsflash to June Jones and the Rainbow Warriors.

There is absolutely nothing in my post that implies that the SEC is eons ahead of anyone. To read that post and reach that conclusion is simply, delusional, brainless, and just plain lazy.

"Calm down, take your me... (Below threshold)

"Calm down, take your meds. Nothing to get personal about in this post."

I'm speaking to the behavior, not the person. If you can't take the heat of your post, get out of the blog kitchen. Speaking about behaviors is not personal. If you take it personally, that's your problem.

"Every Division I team has speed? I think you need to send that newsflash to June Jones and the Rainbow Warriors."

Last time I checked, number 7 on the Warriors has all the speed he needs. Maybe you missed all those receiving records he broke at Hawaii. Yeah, they don't play the best opposition--but neither did his predecessors.

Speed is not the deciding factor on the football field. Preparation, game planning, and reading and reacting quickly to keys are. Everybody plays better when they play fast. To play fast, they have to know their keys. To know their keys, they have to have excellent preparation. It's a game of the mind, then the body.

"Big 10 size with SEC speed."

This is what you said. You used these tired, ridiculous, worn out, deluded descriptions in a poor attempt to make an overall point about Michigan.

How about describing them with new adjectives instead? Apparently, because you're delusional, brainless, and just plain lazy. Now instead of describing the behavior, I'm describing you. Why? Re-read what I wrote in bold. There. Now you actually have a personal attack to be upset about. Nah nah, na boo-boo...and all that stuff.

Still think you need to relook the meds but keep the comments coming. This kitchen isn't even close to getting too hot for me.

Happy New Year.

"Still think you need to... (Below threshold)

"Still think you need to relook the meds but keep the comments coming."

I'm direct and to the point. You'll never misunderstand what I'm saying that way. What's crazy about that?

Everyone gets in a bomb throwing mood now and again. Throwing bombs in every comment? Yeah, time to check the meds.

I forgot--Happy New Year to you, too. :-)
