In a word, yes. At least according to former Giant back-up quarterback Tim Hasselbeck.
"I've been there, I've been in that locker room, I know how guys feel, I know how people in that organization feel," Tim Hasselbeck, a Giants backup quarterback in 2005 and 2006, said yesterday on the "Mike and Murray Show" on Sirius Satellite Radio.
"People there are relieved he's not around. There's this big stink about he's on injured reserve. How come he's not on the sideline supporting his team? Let me tell you something, they don't want him there. They're going to say all the right things, 'Oh yeah, we'd love to have him around' and all that stuff because he's their teammate, he's under contract next year and you can't do that. But when they're talking to people and it's not necessarily being reported they don't want him around. He's a distraction."
Tim Hasselbeck should not be confused with his all-pro bother Matt but, for the record, it is Tim that landed talk show hottie Elizabeth.
His point however is very valid. The Giants are better without Shockey. The chaos that he brings to the team isn't worth his dwindling performance in the recent past. And check it out, it has clearly gone down.
He had the same number of touchdowns as Pittsburgh tight end Matt Spaeth; neither of which made the top 20 in terms of tight end production. So, why does every football fan in America know Shockley and no one knows Spaeth? Because Shockley is a flaming ass, that's why.
Look, sometimes we tolerate superb athlete's quirkiness or even being an ass when their contribution warrants the oversight. But let's face it, Jeremy Shockey is no Randy Moss or T.O.
I still don't know if the Giant's have enough to beat the Pats but they are better without Jeremy Shockey.

I have to agree. Shockey's more of a distraction than an asset. And Boss has done yeoman's work in Shockey's place.
