Vikes, Peterson Speed Detroit's Free-Fall

The Lions were an awful frisky squad earlier in the year, with their brash predictions and their cocky quarterback and their alleged genius offensive coordinator. And their new shiny rookie wide receiver who was supposed to take the league by storm. Fast forward to today: The Lions staggered into Minnesota having lost their last three. The Vikings were riding high after a complete dismantling of the New York Giants, plus they had their own stud rookie Adrian Peterson back after a knee injury. The Lions at least knew they could stop Peterson and beat the Vikes, cause they did so earlier in the season. So what happened? The Lions didn't stop Peterson, Calvin Johnson pulled a complete disappearing act, and the Vikings walked all over the Kitties for a 42-10 victory.

The Lions' main problem is that their running game has entirely disappeared. It didn't help that they were facing one of the toughest run defenses in the league today - but at least they should've been able to make hay through the air against that feeble Viking pass D, right? Jon Kitna had a decent day, but with no run game to back up the pass, the Vikes just kept bringing pressure, and finally battered Kitna into submission.

Meanwhile, Adrian Peterson laid to rest any doubts anyone may have had about his health by running for 116 yards and 2 TDs, and basically looking like he hasn't lost a step despite having to wear a brace on his knee. Viking fans - among whose number I count myself - are giddy over this team's prospects what with AD being back, the defense playing great and Tarvaris Jackson finally starting to figure it out at QB.
