Warren Sapp went haywire early in today's Jacksonville/Oakland game (which has since turned into a major Jaguars rout). An account of the incident from the blog Inside the Oakland Raiders:
[David] Garrard drives the Jaguars to the Raiders 25-yard line before the Raiders stiffen, bringing up fourth-and-10 from the 25-yard line. An illegal hands to the face penalty on Tony Pashos against Derrick Burgess pushes Jacksonville back to the 35.Warren Sapp gets a dead ball penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct before the ball is snapped, pushing the ball to the 20. Another flag flies. Burgess gets the second foul. Defensive line coach Keith Millard goes out to get Sapp, who gets his second penalty and is ejected from the game. Sapp incurs a third foul when he doesn't leave.
Three penalties in one incident - is that some kind of record? This could only happen to a Raider. Obviously, Sapp knew this game was going to get ugly for his team, and decided to get booted early and spare himself. I've heard of baseball managers and pitchers doing this many a time, but never a football player. More high-class stuff from Sapp.
