MLB Suspends 2 For HGH

The Royals' Jose Guillen and the Orioles' Jay Gibbons have both been suspended for the first 15 games of next season by MLB for violating the drug policy. The players were among several suspected of receiving Human Growth Hormone, but were the only two to receive suspensions. Gary Matthews, Jr., Rick Ankiel, Troy Glaus and Scott Schoeneweis were also investigated but the league found "insufficient evidence" against them.

Couple this with the upcoming Mitchell report, which, it is widely believed, will name names of players who used performance enhancers, and you've got yourself an old-fashioned public relations nightmare for baseball. Or, maybe you don't; it almost feels now like the steroid thing has gotten to be old news. Unless a really, really big-name player is named by the Mitchell report, I suspect most fans won't give two hoots about it. I personally am numb to the whole thing. I now just assume that almost everyone is taking performance enhancers of some type, and stories like today's just make me yawn. Perhaps that is sad, but it is the reality. And I know I'm not alone in my indifference.
