Michigan fans still harboring some faint hope that Les Miles would reconsider his decision to remain at LSU can now put that to rest, and commence wishing for someone else to take over their football program. The LSU board's athletic committee today signed off on a deal that would keep Miles in Baton Rouge until 2012, and all that remains is for the full board to give its approval.
Miles seemed to flirt with Michigan, but ultimately offered a vehement denial that he was anything but the head coach of LSU. Still, a few remained skeptical - not surprising given the number of coaches who've made sudden reversals in recent years. Miles, however, really meant it when he said he was all about LSU, and had no interest in jumping to his alma mater. I really can't blame him - Michigan is not the same program it once was, and the Big 10 is not the same conference it once was. The LSU job at this point is a better job.
Of course, Miles will get to live one big part of the Michigan experience - he gets to face Ohio State, in the National Championship game no less. The former Wolverines player and Bo Schembechler assistant will doubtless experience immense satisfaction, even beyond that of being the coach of the championship team, when his Tigers pound the Buckeyes into mush in the Superdome come January.

You really haven't been paying attention to College Football this season, have you?
And Miles was definitely interested in the Michigan job. He directed his agent to contact Michigan AD Bill Martin during the ESPN fiasco. Martin dropped the ball and left Miles twisting in the wind. He was too busy boating. Martin confirmed that himself yesterday.
