Is Les Miles Going to Michigan After All?

I first reported that Miles had agreed to go to Michigan, then he came out and said he was staying at LSU. I even received a couple of emails saying that this proved that I was an idiot. Yeah, nobody missed a prediction in college football this year.

Well, Sporting News is reporting that Miles may have been just joshing before the SEC Championship game.

All is quiet on the Michigan coaching front, which means one thing: LSU's Les Miles is in the crosshairs.

"I would be shocked if he doesn't go," an SEC head coach tells me.

And time and again, I'm told few in Baton Rouge would shed tears if Miles ends up in Ann Arbor -- despite him adamantly pledging his allegiance to LSU and signing a new deal with the school. The LSU brass just doesn't want Miles ruining the Tigers' run to the national title.

Win or lose against Ohio State in the BCS championship game, it looks more and more likely that Miles will be named Michigan's coach. If that happens, LSU will become the hottest opening in America. I think the Tigers will make a run at Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino.

I agree that LSU would shed few tears for the fickle Miles. Look, I know that Miles has gotten the Tigers to the BCS Championship game but all of this backdoor dealing and speculation feeding will not set well in Louisiana.

Coach Miles is apparently not aware of a hard fact in the Pelican State. Being the head coach at LSU is undeniably the greatest position, of any kind, on planet earth. There simply is no "upward" move. For Miles to entertain the idea that there is will ultimately be his undoing.

The only people that seem t... (Below threshold)

The only people that seem to be confused about his status is the media. I realize nothing is for certain, but he's said this twice now. I'll believe he's going to Michigan after the MNC when it actually happens.

Danny Strickland:

Update: Miles office just released another denial that he is leaving LSU. He says he was simply helping his old school in their search for a new coach.

I guess we'll see.

The LSU faithful should be ... (Below threshold)

The LSU faithful should be concerned....if he stays.
As a Tennessee fan that knows his team's limits I will opine that Miles came dangerously close to losing several more games this year because of poor coaching and clock management.
Give that level of talent to a Steve Spurrier (gag) and it is all over in the SEC West.
