Huge MLB Trade

The Florida Marlins are about to trade Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Tigers as part of an eight-player deal. The six players going back to Florida would include P Andrew Miller, OF Cameron Maybin, C Mike Rabelo and other prospects.

Obviously, this trade would vault the Tigers straight back to the top of the A.L. Central, and perhaps make them favorites to represent the American League in the World Series. A middle-of-the-order featuring Magglio Ordonez, Gary Sheffield and Cabrera sounds pretty darn scary. And how about a rotation of Verlander, Willis, Bonderman, Robertson and Rogers (some of those guys would have to rebound from poor seasons in '07)?

The Marlins, meanwhile, continue their tradition of selling off any and all players who become too pricey - a habit that would seem a lot more revolting had the franchise not managed to win a couple of World Series titles in the meantime. Who knows - maybe the Marlins will re-load with young talent, and find themselves back in the series again in the next couple of years. Or maybe the league will finally say enough is enough and move the franchise to somewhere where people will actually support a major league team by showing up to games.
