Update: Falcons May Have Hooked the Tuna

The Atlanta Falcons are in total disarray as an organization, and badly need an infusion of credibility. Owner Arthur Blank, sensitive to this new post-Petrino/Vick reality, is reportedly ready to jettison GM Rich McKay and bring in a really big fish to run things - the Fat Tuna himself, Bill Parcells.

Parcells, for his part, says he is ready to accept the challenge of restoring the Falcons franchise:

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. Arthur [Blank] and I have had some pretty constructive discussions. I basically will oversee the football operations. We'll meet today -- not in Atlanta -- and work out some of the final details but I don't think there's any deal breakers here.

Parcells makes clear that he is not interested in a return to coaching however:

Arthur wants to rebuild the football operation. I'll hire a general manager and then we'll hire a coach. We'll do this together, the GM, the coach and myself. The coach absolutely will not be Bill Parcells. All this happens if we finalize this thing, which I expect to do.

Parcells says he has names in mind for GM and coach but isn't giving anything away. My guess is that Parcells would himself take over the GM role and then hire someone else to coach - yes, I believe him when he says he doesn't want to return to coaching. I think Parcells's stint in Dallas knocked the remaining coaching desire out of him, and he would prefer a nice cushy desk job as long as it gives him lots of power to order people around.

Here's one thing I hope - that Parcells finds a job for his buddy Keyshawn Johnson on the Falcons staff, hence getting Keyshawn away from ESPN where he is abysmal. Maybe Tuna could make Keyshawn the Vice President in Charge of Being a Total Assbite. One thing I know for sure won't happen with Parcells in Atlanta - Terrell Owens becoming a Falcon. Bill Belichick and Eric Mangini will go on vacation to Fire Island together before T.O. ever works under Fat Tuna again.

Update: Two seconds after I posted this it came across ESPN that negotiations between Parcells and the Falcons have broken off and now Parcells is looking at accepting a job with the Miami Dolphins. Apparently rebuilding the Falcons wasn't a big enough challenge for him - he wanted something really impossible.
