The Falcons had a lead against the Cardinals today late in the 4th. But Kurt Warner was able to lead Arizona into Atlanta territory, and with 4 seconds left Neil Rackers hit a game-tying field goal. Then, in OT, Warner hit Anquan Boldin a couple of times, and Edgerrin James ran it, and Rackers hit a 31-yard field goal to seal the victory, sending the Falcons to 0-2 under new head coach Emmitt Thomas.
Give the Falcons credit for showing some heart - they were down 24-14 at the half, but scored 13 in the 4th and gave themselves a chance. Leading the charge was Chris Redman, who went for 315 and 2 TDs. It wasn't enough in the end, but at least they didn't completely Petrino it as they seemed to last week in getting demolished 37-3 by Tampa Bay.
Of course, no matter what happens, there's no way in hell Emmitt Thomas is going to be the coach come next season. Atlanta has no choice but to go out and get an established head man, someone like Marty Schottenheimer, to lend them renewed credibility with their fans and any free agents they might want to try to bring in. The Falcons just have to wipe 2007 out of their minds and start over.
