Cowboys' Williams Suspended for Horse Collar

At what point is Roy Williams going to figure out that the horse-collar is illegal and stop doing it? Apparently never. The league, however, persists in trying to teach Williams to curb his habit of dragging offensive players, primarily Eagles, down from behind by their shoulder-pads. Today they suspended him one game for the above play on Donovan McNabb, who was uninjured - making him luckier than Terrell Owens, who several years ago was subjected to the same treatment by Williams and suffered a broken leg. Now, ironically perhaps, Owens is Williams's teammate. That's what known as the Circle of Jerks.

Further commentary from my pal over at the Cowboys blog The Landry Hat. I offer this link because I think the guy is amusing although full of it.

He will never learn to tack... (Below threshold)
Imhotep:

He will never learn to tackle any other way.
He should not be allowed to play in the NFL.

That's his 3rd "horse collar" penalty this year.

Danzinski, you cannot hide ... (Below threshold)

Danzinski, you cannot hide on this blog and make fun of me. I found you after someone ratted you out.
Listen, I am not full of it. The rule is full of it. And to the person above, Roy Williams is a Pro Bowl safety. Show some damn respect.

"It's based on judgment,... (Below threshold)
Peter F.:

"It's based on judgment, not science." from the landry hat site...

Without a doubt, that is the single most lame-brained and laughable argument against a call I've EVER heard. LOL! (You're right, Dan, his commentary IS amusing! And I'm not going to even touch the McNabb's "theatrics" comment.)

What call made by an official ISN'T a judgment call. (Hint: There's a reason there's no question mark after that statement.) The ONLY time science even comes near a football field is during a replay--and that's when TVs and replay are used. Moreover, horsecollaring isn't a reviewable offense. Better still, you'd have to blind, ignorant (or just a Cowboy fan) to say that that wasn't a horsecollar.

Roy Williams is a fine safety, who just happens to have a penchant for horsecollaring players.

Enjoy the day off, Roy. (Oh, and learn to tackle.)
