Bears Hand Cowboys Homefield

The Cowboys now don't have to worry about that Week 17 game with Washington and whether Terrell Owens will be ready to play. Because today the Chicago Bears, with more than a little assist from Mother Nature, knocked off the Green Bay Packers 35-7 and handed the Cowboys the homefield advantage they would've otherwise needed that final game to clinch.

The Packers and Bears played today in a miserable 30 mph wind that basically emptied one whole half of Soldier Field (except for the drunks; even as we speak they're sweeping the stadium in search of dead ones). Brett Favre was clearly affected by the weather worse than Bears starter Kyle Orton, which begs the question of whether it would've necessarily been a good thing for the Packers to get homefield and have the NFC title game at Lambeau anyway.

Bears fans may now be wondering why their team couldn't have played this well all season, and why Kyle Orton wasn't given a shot sooner. The defense has certainly looked better the last couple of weeks. But this is all moot as the Bears have long-since been eliminated from playoff contention. Going 2-0 on the year against the Pack is a nice consolation prize for the Bears anyway.
