Sabathia wins AL Cy Young

How the hell did the Cleveland Indians' pitcher C.C. Sabathia win the AL Cy Young?

That's right, the Baseball Writers' Association of America votes at the end of the regular season and before the playoffs. This makes a major case for having the writers vote after the post-season. Having met and chatted with Sabathia at a mutual friend's wedding (watch your toes, I'm name dropping here, pal), he's a very amiable and talented guy. But Cy winner? Nah, that clearly should have gone to Boston's Josh Beckett.

Oh well, Beckett can admire his World Series ring in the off-season, while C.C. can gaze up at the post-season long balls he coughed up still orbiting the Earth.

Gary Colavecchio:

Voting was done BEFORE post season. Sabathia led the big leagues in innings pitched and had 3.21 era.

Kal:

The rules should be changed to make voting take place after the post season. Cy-Young awards should take into account post season heroics such as that of Josh Beckett as well as post season "shit the beds" like that of C.C. Sabathia (particularly against the Red Sox). However Sabathia did pitch a hell of a regular season I gotta give him credit.

P.S. nice blog, feel free to check out www.kalspicks.com

Amy:

I'm a lifelong Sox fan and as much as I wanted to see Josh Beckett win the Cy Young, I do think Sabitha deserved it. Sabitha pitched around 40 more innings than Beckett did, and he also had a lower ERA than Beckett did.
