Rollins Wins NL MVP (?)

Well, yes, actually. Philadelphia's shortstop Jimmy Rollins is the winner of the NL MVP.

This was a tough, tough vote, but Jiminey Christmas, how does Colorado's Matt Holliday not win? It's not that Rollins isn't deserving of the award, he is. But I'll go back to the argument of: Where would the Rockies have been without Holliday? Answer: Sipping run punch in the Caribbean in October instead of going to the Big Show. Which is what Holliday & Co. did to Rollins & Co. when they met in the playoffs.

But give Rollins his just reward.

He was the spark that lit the Phillies offense from April 1 to the end--hitting .296 with 30 homers, 94 RBI, 139 runs scored and 41 stolen bases. All a bit of a surprise considering Rollins gets off to typically slow starts. And when teammate and slugger Ryan Howard went down with an injury in early May, Rollins carried the Phils and kept them within at least breathing distance of the Mets. Not bad for a leadoff hitter.

With Colorado's humidor helping balls to act properly in the thin Denver air, it's hard to argue that Coors Field was responsible for his .340 BA, 37 homers, 120 runs scored and137 RBI. Oh, and there was that little face-smashing slide into home during the 1-game playoff against San Diego that got the Rocks into the playoffs.

I think I'll go back to scratching my head now.

I hate to say 'east coast media bias", but....

You know very well that postseason performance isn't supposed to factor into MVP consideration. Remember, A-Rod's got three of 'em (and deserves each one, too, prick though he may be).
