Ricky Williams was activated from the exempt list by the Miami Dolphins today, and may suit up for tonight's showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Williams's early activation - the Dolphins had until December to make up their minds about him according to the league's roster exemption rules - was necessitated by an injury to Jesse Chatman, the team's top rusher since Ronnie Brown was placed on IR. Samkon Gado was let go to make room for Ricky on the roster.
Ricky is reportedly in fine shape, and is said to have had a good week of practice, so there's no reason for the Dolphins not to play him. Of course they still have no chance against the Steelers, and will be 0-11 once tonight's game is over. But at least Ricky gives people a reason to click over to Monday Night Football for a few minutes. Unless they're deeply absorbed in something more interesting, like sorting their socks or staring at the waterstain on their ceiling that kind of looks like Bing Crosby.
Update: ESPN reports that Ricky Williams will indeed start tonight for the Dolphins.
