Pardon me if I tear up, but I'm feeling a little nostalgic here.
I'm back in the mid-1990's again. My labrador is rambunctious and full of energy, I'm working in a creatively stifling ad agency I can't wait to leave and I'm living Dallas with a girl I don't love. But there's good news: It's the overachieving Packers led by rocket-armed Brett Favre versus the all-too-pretty-and-perfect Dallas Cowboys--a team I love to root against, giving endless amounts of grief to my Cowboy-loving co-workers. The Pack end up whopping the crud out of the Da Boys, and I talk endless garbage for a week. (Oh, and I made a little money off the creative hack that was my boss. Cha-ching!)
Now here we are 10 years later. My dog is still full of energy, but like her owner she's slowed down a bit. I'm out of advertising (for the most part), living in a gorgeous city in a great house with a beautiful wife and a baby due in just 4 short months. Does it get any better?
Actually, yes, it does. We haven't even finished Week 12 games and, like a lot of NFL fans, I can't wait for the huge game between the 10-1 Green Bay Packers (led by some guy named Favre) and the 10-1 Dallas Cowboys on December 2. The names have changed, but the uniforms and the historic rivalry remain the same.
Finally, there's now Old Man Favre leading the once-again overachieving Pack one more time into that plastic-field claptrap dungeon that is Texas Stadium to face America's Team. Even as a Raiders fan, Favre has been my favorite player for years. No player in the NFL today can rival his guts and passion and talent for the game. I mean, QB's celebrate TD's, sure. But what QB runs the 60 yards down the field after a TD to leap into his receiver's arms like a 10-year old? So I'd love to see the Old Man put it together on Dec. 2 so we can watch him action one more time in January at Lambeau Field.
And no, I'm not crying.
But somebody bring me a tissue.
And a beer while you're up.
UPDATE: Hmm, seems I'm calendar challenged. The game is Thursday, Nov. 29.

The game is on NFL network, so I guess I'll watch the game with the MUTE button on.
Bryant Gumble is a tool. A fact which I had forgotten for nearly a year, then I watched the game on Thanksgiving Night...yuck.
