Missouri is Your New BCS Leader

The Missouri Tigers sit atop the latest BCS rankings after their win over Big 12 rivals Kansas. West Virginia is second after dismantling Connecticut, followed by Ohio State, Georgia and the aforementioned Jayhawks. Virginia Tech is 6th, then comes last week's number 1 LSU, followed by a trio of early-season favorites who stumbled: USC, Oklahoma and Florida. Undefeated Hawaii is 12th, the magic number for them to receive an at-large bid.

I honestly thought Virginia Tech would leap over Kansas. The important thing, though, is that Georgia did. The Bulldogs have no more games left, after being knocked from the SEC title game by Tennessee. So, it's conceivable that if Missouri lost to Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship game, and West Virginia lost their last game of the season against the Wannstache and Pitt, and Virginia Tech lost to Boston College in the ACC title game, Georgia could spring up and face Ohio State in the national championship game. Unless either LSU or Oklahoma got a huge bump in the polls by winning their conference title. Which seems like it would only be fair, given that Georgia didn't even make the SEC title game.

It's pretty simple then. If West Virginia and Missouri win, they're playing for the trophy. If one of them loses it will be Ohio State in the other slot. If they both lose, it will be Ohio State and God only knows. The only thing I'm reasonably sure of is that it won't be Kansas.
