Jimmie Johnson Wins Second Straight Nextel Cup

Jimmie Johnson is the king of NASCAR for the second straight year. He finished 7th yesterday at Homestead, giving him enough points to easily out-pace Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon.

Gordon, who actually led the regular season in points, seemed a little bitter about losing to Johnson, who started the Chase seeded first after whatever goofy adjustments they do, and wound up at one point winning four straight races on the way to claiming the trophy. Gordon said:

We just put together one heck of a total year. You know what I mean? On one side, you know I love the Chase, I love what it's all about and the entertainment aspect of it, and I know it's the best thing for the sport. But when I look at our whole year, it's a little tough.

In other words, Gordon doesn't like the new format because this year it screwed him. I don't know what to say to Jeff other than to suggest that next time he try beating Johnson in a few races during the Chase, then he won't have to worry about it. Also, second place isn't too shabby, right? Dale Junior would give a kidney to finish that high.
