"Green" and Stupid on NBC

OK, I've had enough.

During tonight's halftime program, Sunday Night Football studio lights were turned completely off in recognition of NBC's "Green Is Univeral" campaign. Instead of using studio lights, NBC used--come on now, guess--candles to power the half game show.

You've gotta be frickin' kidding me.

According to Bob Costas--accompanied by Keith 'Worst Person of the Century" Olbermann to his left--by turning out the studio lights, NBC will save enough energy to power ONE household for an entire month!

Holy shit! By all means, please, let ALL half time game shows do this! It all starts with ONE friggin' household!

It's a brilliant idea on behalf on NBC marketing donks to devote "150 hours" of perfectly good broadcasting time to "environmental issues". So much time that they sent Matt Lauer to the Arctic Circle and Anne Currie to South Pole to deliver their reports on the rapidly dwindling polar ice caps--so that they can report back to a darkened NBC studios in New York.

If we're lucky, they'll both freeze to death and be polar bear food. (Well, Matt will be polar bear food; Ann will be penguin food.)

Good God, if we devoted half as much energy to combating "global warming" as we did to Islamofascism, we'd have defeated Islamofascisism by now.

But God forbid we should label lunatics as lunatics. Let's all just get behind an idea we can all get behind. Nothing screams cooperation and unity like hyperventilating cause.

Let's just play football for fuck's sake.

Um. .KLee. .hate to break it to you, but that is precisely the POINT of this post. Why did NBC find it neccesarry to go political in the middle of a friggin' football game for a meaningless gesture?

Couldn't they just keep it about football, or did they have to act as part of the advertising wing of the Democratic party even during a football game?

Yes, Ryan is right: That is the precisely the POINT of commentary, Lee--keep politics and political causes out of the game. But apparently you're so addled with hatred of any and all things Republican, or get so hopped up when any one dares to question your beloved little pet causes, that you can't even see the point of the article. No surprise there, really.

You truly look like a fool here, Lee. I almost feel embarrassed for you.

What I found funny was how they turned off all the lights, and lit candles to save power; all the while having at least half a dozen plasma screens above, below, and behind the commentators. Seems a little half hearted guys. Also, I was wondering how much emissions the planes gave off taking 3 complete crews all around the world to broadcast for the today show. Thats a lot of crap in the atmosphere to tell us not to put crap in the atmosphere. Thats the problem I have with all this global warming stuff. The people that tell us we are to blame are traveling in private jets. Maybe they would be taken a little more seriously if they actually believed the garbage they are preaching.

You're doing a pretty good job of convincing us that media types that mix sports are stupid assholes, Peter.

Of course, if this was Fox Sports and the topic was "terrorism" instead of "Global Warming" you'd be waving the American flag like -- a bat-shit crazy conservative hack who sees nothing wrong with mixing sports and politics.

The best part for me was when the blonde guy whips out the flashlight, probably filled with Nickle Cadmium batteries, and proudly said "I'll use my flashlight".
I almost spit beer out my nose....Olberman and Kostas probably don't know that the carbon footprint of those tiny batteries completely negates the energy they're saving in the 150 hours of green programing.

wiscohawk:

I agree, couldn't NBC donate that money to some organization that helps find alternative energy sources. What is the point of doing it for one game? Yes, its a great symbolic gesture but in reality if they really wanted to make a difference they would do other measures to save energy. Plus, if you have plasmas on in the background doesn't that defeat the purpose? A great idea in theory.
