David Carr Gets Sacked Again

The Carolina Panthers have announced that Vinny, the invincible, will start against San Francisco. Carolina started out pretty good but has dropped five in a row. It isn't clear if this can be reversed but it is clear that Coach Fox does not think David Carr is up to the challenge.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Vinny Testaverde was back on the field Wednesday for the Carolina Panthers in the role of starting quarterback. His backup, however, remains a mystery.

The 44-year-old Testaverde was a late scratch Sunday after waking up a day earlier with a stiff back. Testaverde, who missed one game and portions of another earlier this season with a right Achilles' tendon injury, practiced without difficulty Wednesday.

"He looks a lot better today than he did Sunday morning," coach John Fox said.

Fox again said Testaverde would start Sunday against San Francisco if he remained healthy. Fox wouldn't say whether David Carr, who struggled in Sunday's loss to New Orleans, or undrafted rookie Matt Moore would serve as Testaverde's backup.

Maybe now all of the people who have been making excuses for Carr for years will realize he is simply not NFL caliber. While his old team, the Texans are in last place in the AFC South, they are tied for second in scoring under Matt Schaub. Schaub also has more yards and a higher completion percentage than Peyton Manning. And yes, the Falcon's GM should be hung.

The real shot at Carr's ego has to be his replacement, Vinny Testaverde. Vinny was a star prospect when Carr was born! Not to offend anyone's sensibilities, but 44 is ancient for a NFL quarterback.

While attending Sewanhaka High School in Floral Park, future New York Jet Vinny Testaverde played football on his school's team. In 1979, the team was awarded the "Rutgers Cup" as Nassau County's most outstanding team.

So, now Carr and his $13 million a year can try to carry a clipboard without getting sacked every other play. Meanwhile, Vinny and his $300 thousand will lead a struggling team without blaming the O-line for every mistake.
