Bill Callahan got a special early Christmas present from Nebraska interim AD Tom Osborne - a pink-slip.
Lest you think the Huskers heartless for booting their coach just a couple days after Thanksgiving, consider the $3.1 million Nebraska has to pay Callahan to buy out his contract, which would've run through 2011. That takes the sting out of being fired I would imagine.
The canning of Callahan is one of the least-shocking in recent sports history, given his 27-22 record over four years as Huskers coach, and dismal 5-7 performance this year, which included losses to teams like Kansas, Missouri and Texas A&M - teams Nebraska would've flicked aside like flies in the old days. Times have obviously changed in the former Big 8 though - no longer is it Nebraska, Oklahoma and everybody else.
LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini and Buffalo coach Turner Gill, a former Nebraska assistant, are the names most often mentioned as Callahan's potential successor. Whether either of these men will be able to rescue Nebraska from their new role as Big 12 doormats is anyone's guess.

Oh, you mean the asshat who forgot to change the Raiders playbook after Jon Gruden was fired? The same coach who couldn't foresee that, hmmm, in Super Bowl Gruden just MIGHT TELL HIS FRIGGIN' DEFENSE the ins and outs of the offense that HE created? THAT Callahan?
Cornhusker fans, you're better off without him. And I hope for your sakes that Norv Turner is fired by the Chargers at the end of the year, otherwise he could threaten to coach in Nebraska.
