The Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts were the marquee teams on Turkey Day this year, and all three took care of their business in resounding fashion.
The Packers started the day off matched up against the Lions, who were playing on Thanksgiving for the 9,000th straight year. Things looked bleak for the Pack after Brett Favre was stepped on by an offensive lineman and coughed the ball up to the Kitties, helping Detroit to an early lead. But the Lions quickly remembered how bad they are and Favre and the Packers were able to blister them, finally winning 37-26.
The second game featured the 9-1 Dallas Cowboys and 2-8 New York Jets. In a classic case of predictable outcomes, the Cowboys beat the Jets around like a pinata. None of the Cowboys' big stars put up particularly spectacular numbers, but they were playing the Jets, so they didn't have to. The final score was 34-3.
The third game seemed to have the makings of a huge upset for a time. The Falcons, 3-7 going into the game, jumped ahead 10-0 on the 8-2 Colts, who have been shaky since losing star receiver Marvin Harrison. But Peyton Manning decided to shake off some of his recent struggles and finally play like an MVP, putting up 272 yards and 3 TDs in helping the Colts not only come back on the Falcons but rout them 31-13.
The Cowboys and Packers wins were especially huge, given that those two teams are presently jockeying for position in the NFC, and will play each other next Thursday. The winner of that game will likely clinch home-field throughout the playoffs, and will be the favorite to be fed like raw meat to the Patriots come Super Bowl Sunday.
