It's pretty much over for the Bengals as far as playoff contention goes. They came into today at 3-7, dead last in the AFC North. The only question left was how far the team would go into the tank. Would they still battle every week, or just pack it in on Marvin Lewis who in a couple short years has gone from darling of the league to the brink of being fired.
For one day at least the Bengals showed some spunk. They took on Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans today, and for the first time in awhile looked like the team people thought they could be. Carson Palmer flung it like the MVP candidate he was supposed to be, tossing 3 TDs to Chad Johnson. And speaking of Mr. Johnson...he returned from his apparent suicidal depression to have some fun after one of his TDs, commandeering a CBS camera (and probably incurring a fine since cameras are technically props).
Meanwhile, the Bengals defense actually showed that it has a pulse. They gave up very little to the usually stout Tennessee run game, and kept Vince Young from either running for or throwing a touchdown.
It's too late for the Bengals to make a playoff run of course, but Marvin Lewis can still save his job if the team shows life down the stretch. The Titans, in the meantime, appear to be fading. With neither Cleveland nor Jacksonville looking like they're going to let up, the Titans are going to have to put on a mighty run to even have a chance at the post-season. It doesn't look good for them either.

As a Bengals fan, I'm shocked at how well they played today. In defense of the Titans and Vince Young, though, I think his injury is much more debilitating than he's letting on. He's a shell of his former self from last year.
