It's been a good few days for Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez. First, he signs a big old fat contract to secure the many future generations of Rodriguezes. Then, he rightly wins the 2007 AL MVP, and the third MVP of his magnificent career.
A-Rod fell just 2 votes short of being named a unanimous winner--those two votes, from two Michigan writers, went to Detroit's Magglio Ordonez. This bugs me. These two yahoos are 'being homers'--voting for a home-town guy vs. the clear and obvious winner. No doubt Maggs had a great year and was an MVP front runner early in the season. But without A-Rod the Yanks don't even sniff the lead in the AL East in September, or come close to the playoffs. Any one paying any kind of attention to baseball knows this. Unless, of course, you're a 'homer' writer living in the Detroit area.
(On a personal note, I'd like to thank A-Rod for a) having a big season and helping my fantasy team make a respectable 3rd place finish in my league; and b) for not going to the Dodgers. If you had, I woulda had to trade your ass. What with me being a Giants fan and all. And no, I'm not being a 'homer' because A-Rod's on my fantasy team. I'm just a dork. What else is new....)
