The Angels and White Sox stoked the hot stove today by swinging a big trade. The White Sox sent right-handed starter Jon Garland, an 18-game winner in both '05 and '06, to L.A. in exchange for gold-glove SS Orlando Cabrera.
The move is seen as a precursor to bigger deals for both teams. Garland gives the Angels even greater pitching depth than they had before, allowing them to send arms to Florida in exchange for all-star third baseman Miguel Cabrera. And the White Sox are expected to stay busy as well, with rumors swirling that they're about to pick up former Twins CF Torii Hunter.

Yankee closer Mariano Rivera has accepted the team's 3-year/$45 million offer. There was talk that Rivera wanted a fourth year from the Yanks but apparently he caved. I'm sort of surprised the Yanks would even give him three years, considering how fast he seems to be slipping.
Mike Lowell will be staying at 3rd base for the Red Sox. The World Series MVP agreed to a new 3-year/$37 million deal with the champs today. Peter Gammons says Lowell was offered four years by both the Phillies and Dodgers but decided, like Curt Schilling, that he would rather remain in Boston.
