Red Sox conquer Rockies

And in the end, it wasn't even close. In fact, it was a downright snoozer of a World Series.

Mirroring their 2004 triumph, the Boston Red Sox have swept their way to a World Series championship, beating the Colorado Rockies, 4-3 in Game 4 to take the series 4 games to nil.

Boston's powerful pitching staff silenced the powerful Colorado, allowing just 10 runs over 4 games. Meanwhile, Red Sox hitters made Colorado's pitchers look like Colorado's pitchers from pre-humidor days, torching its suspect staff. The only glitches occurring when Boston reliever Hideki Okajima coughed up a 3-run bomb to Matt Holliday in Game 3, and a 2-run homer to Garrett Atkins in Game 4.

So the Red Sox are champs for the second time in 4 years, after 86 years of futility. Is their joy in Mudville for baseball fans? Nah, probably not. Unlike 2004 when the romance of the Red Sox being baseball's second-best band of loveable losers behind the Cubs, there's really no mystique or romance in them winning this time out.

But the Red Sox deserved to win all the same. They were far and away the superior team on the field, and for that, they deserved to be congratulated.

As an ending side note, if anyone outside of the in the greater New England region or the Red Sox Nation thinks others are experiencing joy or relation over the Red Sox victory, they're sadly mistaken. With the way the New England Patriots are positively steamrolling their way to a historic season that will likely end in a Super Bowl win, well, the rest of us in the sports-loving world think the Boston-area fans are gorging themselves on championships.

(Oh, by the way, Alex Rodriguez just declined his option with the Yankees for 2008. Let the bidding war begin.)
