Joe Girardi, your next Yankees' manager

ESPN is reporting that Joe Girardi has been offered the Yankees' manager job and is expected to accept the deal later on today. The unofficial terms of the deal are 3 years, $6 million.

This is an excellent move by the Yankees, and something I thought would happen in my "Yankees lose series, possibly Torre, A-Rod" article:

So who will possibly replace him? Former Yankee catcher and post-season hero, and 2006 Manager of the Year with the Florida Marlins, Joe Girardi, has got to be the #1 candidate on the Boss' list.

A former very good catcher will now have his hands full trying to put together a decent pitching staff. It may take some time, but I think he can do it.

I love Joe Girardi. It sim... (Below threshold)

I love Joe Girardi. It simply culdn't happen to a nicer guy.

Joe is the only sports star/celebrity that I have ever wanted to go talk to, and I struggled to keep myself from going over to his table at Carson's here in Chicago (back when he in his 2nd stint with the Cubs). The only thing that prevented me from going over and bowing and shouting "I AM NOT WORTHY!" was that he was with his wife and baby daughter. Not cool to interrupt a family dinner, and my dignity survived intact!
