International Equestrian Skill-at-Arms Championships

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Tent pegging, the cavalry sport of equestrian skill-at-arms, has a mounted cavalier riding at a full gallop across a timed course, on the flat and over jumps, using sword and lance to smite a succession of ground and elevated targets. Yes, really.

Military cavaliers have practiced tent pegging for more than two-and-a-half millennia, and it is one of only ten disciplines officially recognised by the FEI, the global governing body for Olympic and international equestrianism. Earlier this month, I represented Canada at the International Tent Pegging Championships in Oman and kept an account of the games at my March blog.

Like most tent peggers, I was introduced to the sport through service in a cavalry regiment. Seat a man on a horse, hand him a sword, and set him off at a gallop: any ability to resist tent pegging will immediately abandon him.

I like this sport, especially like its players--tent peggers. Just imagine you seating on a horse, a swod in hand, then setting off at a gallop...How cool you are! lol. I lucily met a tent peggers at equestriancupid.com last month. He introduced much knowledge about Tent pegging to me. I dare to say I thoroughly understand the
sport now! With smile ;-)
