Da Bears. That's right. You heard me. I go for defense. Although the Bear defense hasn't been spectacular (except against the Saints!) lately, I'd rather have to depend on a defense that hasn't been to a Super Bowl, than an offense that hasn't been to a Super Bowl.
Defense wins championships (and I'm not talking about the Colts' defense, which has been equally shaky). In support, I'll cite the Ravens, the Patriots (vs. the Greatest Show on Turf), and even the Rams (the defense won the game by stopping the Titans on the 1 yard line).
Grossman won't have to do much. I think the Bears have found the formula with Cedric Benson and Thomas Jones. Did you see the way Olin Kreutz and the boys were knocking the Saints off the ball? It was classic: use the run to set up the pass.
Add that to the fact that the Colts will be playing on grass instead of turf (I'm going to research this one, but I'm pretty sure their record is worse. Maybe not much worse, but worse than on turf), and the Bears power game will just knock the Colts off the ball.
As a second research project: has there ever been a Super Bowl with more 1st time appearances since, say, Super Bowl III?

Grass vs. turf is really not a fair comparison. A better comparison would be the away games played on natural grass; throwing out both teams home games, as the SB will be an "away" game for both. There, things even out a bit more. The Bears were 3-1 on away games played on grass; the Colts, inlcuding the playoffs were 5-3. Still, that's really not much of a difference.
Now, if you were to argue the Bears running game vs. the Colts D, then I would give an edge to the Bears—but not much of one. Yes, the Colts run D has been stinky, but let's face it, they did stop Larry Johnson. And Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson combined ain't no Larry Johnson, so there's that. But, if the Colts D doesn't stop the run then yeah, they'll have problems all day.
Trouble is, and this is just MHO, I don't think the Bears defense is as good as people think it is. (Just look to the Bears vs. Seahawks playoff game; the Hawks O isn't nearly as good as NO or Indy's, but damned if they didn't put up good numbers against them..and nearly beat them, too.) I think Indy is perfectly capable of putting up 28+ points on the board. Reason? Too many weapons to account for and too many Manning audibles to adjust to and a very good line that should give him good protection. I see lots of quick slant routes to keep Bears blitzes to a minimum. Lots of 3-WR sets with Dallas Clark playing a big roll.
As for the weather, the forecast is good—only a 10% of rain and 70 degrees. Advantage: No one. No cold hands means fewer fumbles.
Oh, and remember one thing: The Colts beat the #1-ranked D already in the Ravens, during the playoffs no less; I don't think they'll be intimidated in the least bit by the Bears.
That's why I think this will be more like SB XIV when the Niners beat the Dolphins alleged superior D, 38-16. Too much offense.
As in all playoff games, who wins is largely determined by who doesn't turn the ball over. If the Colts rattle Grossman and he starts throwing picks, the Bears will dig a bigger hole than their offense is capable of gettting out of. Not so much the Colts, as evidenced by the comeback against the Pats.
My final score: Colts 34, Bears 24.

Um, can I get a witness from the congregation, please? That's right, save for the weather, my predictions were SPOT ON.
